Job description
Position: Sexton
Supervisor: Parish Administrator/Assistant to the Rector
Scheduled Hours: 15-19 hours per week
Position Description:
The Sexton position consists of janitorial duties, set-up and tear down for coffee hour, meetings, special events; working in an atmosphere of caring and trust within the Epiphany congregation.
Under the supervision of the Assistant to the Rector and in partnership with the clergy, staff, and people of Epiphany, the Sexton responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:
Maintenance and Cleaning
Open and close buildings; adjust lighting and thermostats as needed.
Inspect and clean all campus spaces. This includes, but is not limited to, such duties as sweeping, dusting, washing windows, carpet/floor cleaning and related functions.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles regularly and ensure disposal into proper dumpsters.
Keep restrooms and parish hall kitchen stocked with paper products and other staple supplies.
Change lightbulbs as needed.
Security
Open, close, and monitor building & room use as requested.
Grounds Keeping
General clean-up and maintenance of walkways, parking areas, and entrances in cooperation with our Property committee.
Event Set-up and Breakdown
Set up furnishings and supplies, as needed, for church events, including, but not limited to: church services, classes, forums, Coffee Hour, social receptions, Vestry and committee meetings, Seasonal/Special meals, and use of Epiphany buildings by outside groups.
Break down set-ups after the event concludes, storing away furnishings and supplies.
Prepare coffee or other beverages as needed for Sunday morning Coffee Hours
Keep the kitchen and dishware clean and organized.
Provide needed support services related to weddings, memorials, funerals, and outside group services.
Other
Perform other duties as assigned
Report plumbing and other maintenance issues to Property manager and administrator.
Attend weekly staff meetings as advised and the monthly property meetings.
Provide special event coverage on a per-event basis.
Physical Requirements
The Sexton position involves work in a wide range of conditions that can be physically demanding. The Sexton must be able to:
Lift/carry/push weights up to 50lbs
Climb, crawl, stoop, and kneel.
Tolerate exposure to heat and cold.
Operate and properly maintain cleaning equipment.

Duties Subject to Change
As the requirements of Epiphany change, the duties assigned in this position may change with appropriate notice. The Rector, Clergy, and Staff will rely on the Sexton to be flexible with the on-going changes that take place in the church community.
Pay, Hours, and Benefits
The Sexton is expected to work 15-19 hours a week. Compensation is dependent upon experience up to $20 per hour. Candidates interested in this position should send a cover letter, résumé, and references to office@epiphanytempe.org as soon as possible.
