Lay Worship Ministries

The lay worship ministries of Church of the Epiphany are the backbone of our worship services. Dedicated disciples of Jesus Christ work to make sure that our worship services run without a hitch and assist the clergy before, during, and after worship.

The pages below highlight each ministry that is included in worship ministries. We invite you read about each one, to pray about where God is calling you to serve in worship, and to respond to that call by completing the interest form on each page or by sending an email to our priest, Father Hunter Ruffin.

Acolyte Corps

Acolyte Corps The Acolyte Corps of Church of the Epiphany includes adults and youth who serve at the altar assisting the priests or by participating in the processional traditions of our worship. They serve at all parish services and on special occasions, including baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. An essential part of our worship team, Epiphany’s Acolytes include disciples from the fifth grade up to adulthood. Some of our acolytes care for midweek and evening services while most of us…

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers are persons that assist the clergy with specific ministries during worship. They help with reading the lessons of the day, voicing the prayers of the people, and distributing Holy Communion. Similar to acolytes, Eucharistic Ministers serve at all parish worship services that include Holy Communion. Learn more about being a Eucharistic Minister

Altar Guild

Altar Guild Every worship service actually begins and ends with the work of the Altar Guild. Each week members assist the clergy and serve the Parish by preparing the sacraments and maintaining all supplies necessary for the worship services. Caring for the sacred vessels, vestments, bread, wine, linens, candles, torches and prayer stations in all the worship spaces is a true ministry. The members are organized into teams that serve on a rotating basis. Membership is open to anyone who…

Ushers

The ushers are typically the first and last people that visitors see at our church services. They bring a friendly spirit and warmth to our services and are responsible for handing out programs, assisting people in finding a seat, managing the offerings, and for the orderly movement of people to and from communion. The men and women of our Usher Corps are personable, friendly, and sensitive to the needs of others. Become an Usher

Flower Guild

The Flower Guild is comprised of volunteers who create and maintain floral decorations for the sanctuary. This includes all regular Sunday services (except during Advent and Lent), and special services such as Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, the Great Vigil of Easter, Easter Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas and The Epiphany. Wedding Guild

Wedding Guild The Wedding Guild provides assistance in the planning of weddings and receptions. We work with the wedding couple in coordinating all those little details that make a wedding fabulous. We assist with the wedding rehearsal and wedding set-up. On the day of the wedding, the Wedding Guild is actively keeping everyone in place, pinning corsages, helping guests and getting the wedding party happily down the aisle. Join the Wedding Guild
